WANTED - WELLS FAMILIES IN THE UK TO PARTICIPATE IN A WORLDWIDE DNA STUDY

If you are looking for a different Wells family try the Wells Family Genealogy Forum or the Wells Family Research Association.

We have participated in the Wells Family Special DNA Project organised by the Wells Family Research Association. In 2002 a DNA sample was kindly provided by James Wells of Walsall, GGgrandson of William Wells and Hannah Boulton shown in the above tree (see summary). The sample was analysed by Relative Genetics. They found close matches with several other families in the study. Several of these were American families descended from Thomas Welles born about 1590 at Stourton, Warwickshire who took his family to America and became one of the first governors of Connecticut. Another was a family in Australia who have traced their Wells ancestry back to Monmouthshire in the eighteenth century. The sample from our family has tracking number 5063, ID number 213, family number W146. If you are a member of the Ancestry Wells DNA Group our data is listed as "James (NMN) Wells". We are grateful to Orin Wells and the Wells Family Research Association for this fascinating project.

Here is an attempt to identify the most recent common ancestors of our family and the Governor Thomas Welles family.
