Wells family history

This part of my family history is about my Wells family who lived in various parts of England. If you want to skip the detail here is a one page summary.

WANTED - WELLS FAMILIES IN THE UK
TO PARTICIPATE IN A WORLDWIDE DNA STUDY

Please contact me if you recognise anyone in this family. If you are looking for a different Wells family try the WELLS/WELLES genealogy researchers pages, the Wells Family Genealogy Forum or the Wells Family Research Association.

We have participated in the Wells Family Special DNA Project organised by the Wells Family Research Association. In 2002 a DNA sample was kindly provided by James Wells of Walsall, GGgrandson of William Wells and Hannah Boulton shown in the above tree (see summary). The sample was analysed by Relative Genetics who used 26 locations on the Y chromosome. They found an exact match with two other families in the study. One was with an American family descended from Thomas Welles born about 1590 at Stourton, Warwickshire who became a Governor of Connecticut. The other was a family in Australia who have traced their Wells ancestry back to Monmouthshire in the eighteenth century. It is very likely our family are related to these other two, but the precise connection has yet to be established. The sample from our family has tracking number 5063, ID number 213, family number W146. We are grateful to Orin Wells and the Wells Family Research Association for this fascinating project.
